falling apart and my daughter was in big trouble in Arlington. My XC 90 was breaking down and I didn’t have reliable transportation to get to her
I first heard this song (Bigger Houses) in a store the other day and thought it was beautiful. I often forget the message…especially when I see the rich get richer and the poor or middle class be forgotten. In the midst of the chaos and inequality I need to remember what is really important. When I got divorced we had recently purchased a new Lexus convertible and I had a Volvo X-C90. I knew all that would go away and I am not going to say it was easy letting go of easy street in the name of reclaiming my soul. But I did it. I had a friend named John who let me borrow his truck to get to the place I needed go. I kept thinking on the drive who gives a shit what kind of car you have. All I wanted at that moment was a reliable vehicle to get to where my daughter was. You told her I was crazy. That hurt her deeply and it still does. I wonder how different life would have been if people told the whole truth. I digress. Anyway the point wasn’t what car got me to her…a new Lexus convertible or a beat up older truck. All that mattered was that I got there. That was the ONLY thing that mattered. So many things in life I took for granted growing up…knowing my kids were safe and would always be protected, etc. All taken for granted. So much of my life wasted obsessing over the next conquest or commercial property. Time that could have been enjoyed more in the here and now. Time that I didn’t understand was sacred back then. Time I can probably never get back. But I can continue to see the beauty in the little things, the flower that grows through the concrete cracks, children’s laughter, the innocence of animals, the beauty of a sunrise or sunset, the first cup of coffee in the morning, and most importantly my children are still with me. Etc etc Anyway Bigger Houses. Thank you for the song. I needed the reminder as I tend to forget the good a lot. Thank you.
